The fifth grade students recently attended Elementary Honor Choir put on by KMEA (Kansas Music Educators Association). The students worked with a clinician from K-State to polish the five songs we prepared. The students worked and sang with other 5th and 6th grade students from around our district. Each school good bring a total of 6 students to honor choir. The students then put on a concert at Fort Hays State University in Beach/Schmidt Hall. I am so very proud of all my fifth grade students! They worked so hard to prepare the songs!
On Monday August 29th, we held an instrument petting zoo in the music room. Students got to see all the different instruments that can be found in our classroom. Students had the chance to hear what each instrument sounded like, learned how to hold each instrument, got the chance to play an instrument, and learned about the instrument families.
Hello all! I just wanted to let you know what is going on with band this year.
The 5th grade will start with band on the first day of school so they need to remember to bring both their band books and their instrument if they are not renting an instrument from the school. If you have lost your band book, just let me know and I can order a new book for you. The books are $10 dollars.
The 4th grade will start with band after they pick their instruments at the open house on August 31st. The open house starts at 6:30 p.m. If you already have an instrument at home and would like your student to play that instrument, that's great. If not, I will work with the students to help them pick an instrument that suites them. After they pick an instrument, you can either buy an instrument for them to use, or you can rent an instrument from the school. The price of instrument rental is $90 a year. All 4th grade students will need to buy a band book. The cost of that book is $10.
Both the 4th and 5th grade students will have band supplies such as reeds, slide oil, cork grease, etc. available to them through the school. I will have a supply of everything they will need on hand. I will post the prices of these supplies below.
